FAQ
Frequently Asked Customer Questions
Q: How do you screen the products you sell? Will you sell anything if it is considered Christian?
A: No. We try to limit our products to those that we can comfortably say glorify God. Everyone
draws lines at different places, but we have to follow our own conscience. Our philosophy is conservative
and we will not accept some music such as Christian rock or Christian rap. We will not sell books or any
other product that reflect opinions that contradict our core Christian doctrines.
Q: If I buy from House of Jubal, how much of the money goes to the artist or author?
A: More than two thirds of the total of your order goes directly to the artist or author. House of Jubal not only
provides exposure for artists and authors but also handles all aspects of the order including fulfillment and
customer service in exchange for its portion of each sale.

Q: What are cover songs?
A: These are songs that are under copyright protection. If you do not own the rights to the song yourself, you have to obtain a license to press it on a CD or make it available for digital download. Most songs written before 1922 are public domain and are not cover songs.
Q: What will happen if I do not pay royalties on cover songs?
A: You will be exposing yourself to potential legal action should the owner of the copyright find out and choose to press charges. House of Jubal assumes that all of its artists have received the necessary permissions to sell their songs.
Q: How much do royalties cost?
A: Currently, about 9.1 cents for each CD you press or digital download you sell. For a good starting place, visit www.harryfox.com for exact details on how rates are calculated.
Q: How are music licensing and royalties handled at House of Jubal?
A: You are of course responsible for mechanical licensing for any physical products that you allow us to sell. Digital distribution is a whole new issue. You can get DPD licenses yourself (obtained the same way you get mechanical licenses) and use our reporting to pay your own royalties.
Q: What is the easiest way to get licensing for my cover songs?
A: Check with the Harry Fox Agency first at www.harryfox.com or The Copyright Company at www.thecopyrightco.com. These are two of the larger organizations that handle the process of collecting royalties for many copyrighted songs. If you cannot license the song through one of these, you must identify the owner of the copyright (generally a publishing company) and send a "request for mechanical license" directly to them. (You can usually identify a song's owner at either www.songfile.com, www.bmi.com, www.ascap.com, www.sesac.com, or if all else fails, www.copyright.gov.) Once they grant the mechanical license (permission to record), you will send them payment each time you manufacture CD's. You will also send them a payment on a quarterly basis for any digital downloads you may have sold of their song.
Q: How are you different from CDBaby and other websites?
A: Our founder, Greg Howlett has two CDs listed on CDBaby. We like CDBaby and other music websites. But CDBaby and other websites are not well known in the Christian community, and you are unlikely to sell much product on those websites. Of course, we are different in that we sell much more than just recorded music. CDBaby and other websites sell recorded music to anyone; we sell Christian music, books, and art to Christians. We do recommend that you list your music CDs at CDBaby and other websites as well as House of Jubal. It can only help you.
Q: How does House of Jubal inventory my product?
A: We carry your products on a consignment basis. Initially, we will ask you to send us a quantity of five. In the case of CDs, we will open and use one to create the digital downloads. We will notify you as we sell your products and pay you on a monthly basis. If we owe you less than $10, we will roll your total until the month we owe you at least $10.
Q: How much do you pay me when you sell my products?
A: It depends on the product and how much you are charging for it. Click here to learn more.
Q: How do you pay?
A: We pay by PayPal or by check. When you sign up, you will be able to choose how you are paid.
